Nonduality and the Nature of Consciousness
My work aims at enquiring into the nature of consciousness, in particular the experience of nondual consciousness, described by many of the worlds philosophies & religions, such as Advaita Vedanta or Zen.

They suggest that our individual consciousness is in essence a unified whole, peaceful, undivided & limitless, the substratum upon which all of life exists.

The work aims to reflect this state.

Firstly; conveying a sense of limitless space & peace. Not as something separate from the viewer but as immanent within the viewer, qualities that are part and parcel of consciousness itself.

Secondly; examining the relationship between consciousness and it’s objects. Hopefully inspiring the viewer to examine where the boundary is between the two (subject & object, external & internal) & if infact it is a real division at all.

Finally: This work is based upon the principle that consciousness itself is infact more beautiful than any object of awareness, whether it be a spacious landscape, beautiful painting or inspiring thought. The very fact that we continually watch life’s wonders is perhaps the most amazing aspect of life and the defining feature of our humanity.

It is hoped that this work will inspire one’s own enquiry into the nature of awareness, so that then, as the Buddha said of Nirvana, we realise our own consciousness as;
“infinite & shining everywhere.”
